Hathras Road Accident: At least 15 people were killed and thirteen others were injured on Friday after a roadways bus rammed into the van they were travelling in. The vehicle was hit from behind by the bus on National Highway 93 in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras. Following the incident, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to the bereaved families. PM Modi has also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the family of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Nipun Agarwal stated that accident occurred when the bus was trying to overtake the van on the Agra-Aligarh National Highway, about 10 kilometers away from the district headquarters. The passengers were on their way to Agra from Hathras. The deceased include seven men, four women, and four children.The injured have been admitted to a government hospital and are receiving treatement. Four of them are said to be in a critical condition.
Hathras DM, Ashish Kumar said: "It was a collision between a roadways bus and a loader vehicle. The accident happened due to the overtaking. We have been informed about 12 deaths in the incidents. This incident happened on a highway. 16 injured people have been brought here, out of which 4 have been referred."
Taking cognisance of the accident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the district administration officials to provide proper treatement to the injured. "The loss of lives in a road accident in Hathras district is extremely sad. My condolences are with the grieving families of the deceased. Instructions have been given to the district administration officials to provide proper treatment to the injured," he tweeted.
PM Modi, Prez Murmu Offer Condolences; Ex-Gratia Announced
PM Narendra Modi expressed grief over the Hathras bus accident and offered condolences to the families of the victims. He also assured that the local administration was supporting the victims under the UP government's supervision. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the family of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Prime Minister's Office tweeted on X: "The road accident in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh is extremely painful. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this. May God give them strength in this difficult time. I wish for the speedy recovery of the people injured in the accident. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way."
President Droupadi Murmu also expressed condolences over the unfortunate accident. "The news of the death of several people in a road accident in Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured," she posted on X.
