A road accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district claimed the lives of four Kanwar pilgrims late on Tuesday night, July 22. The incident occurred near Bhadawana Lake in the Utilla area, where a group of Kanwariyas was returning with holy Ganga water when a speeding car lost control on the Shivpuri Link Road.

Car Hits Pilgrims, Falls Into Ravine

The car’s tyre reportedly burst, causing the vehicle to swerve off the road and hit the pilgrims before tumbling into a nearby gorge. Four Kanwariyas died on the spot, while two others suffered serious injuries. The crash happened around 1 am between Tuesday and Wednesday.

Angry Pilgrims Block Road After Accident

Following the incident, fellow pilgrims staged a protest and blocked the road. Police rushed to the spot and took control of the situation. The injured were shifted to JAH Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Police Statement On Tragedy

Gwalior Superintendent of Police Hina Khan confirmed the incident. “We received information that a speeding vehicle hit a group of Kanwar pilgrims on the Sheetla Mata Highway. When our team reached the location, three had already died. Three others were rushed to the hospital, where one more succumbed to injuries,” she said.

13-Pilgrim Group

According to police, family members of the victims said 13 pilgrims were walking along the roadside when the accident occurred. Six people were injured, and four died. Witnesses told police the vehicle was speeding when one of its tyres burst, causing it to crash into the group.

Vehicle Owner Identified

Police have recovered the car from the crash site and are now gathering full details. The owner of the vehicle has been identified, and further legal action is underway.
