A 17-year-old boy died by suicide after he jumped off the 15th floor in the Tata Primanti society in Sector 72 of Gurugram, Haryana, on Wednesday, police said.

The deceased, identified as Shaurya Sandilya, was studying in class 12 at a private school in Sector 49 in class 12, according to a report by news agency PTI.

Police added that he was allegedly upset over his 75 per cent marks, short of 90 per cent, which he expected in the CBSE exam. When the incident occurred, his father was at his work while his mother was at home.

Following the incident, locals informed the police after they heard the sound of the fall. Later, Shaurya was rushed to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead.

However, the investigating officer confirmed that the boy was under no pressure from his parents' end to score 90 per cent or above in the 12th exam.

Tamil Nadu Student Dies By Suicide Fearing Failure In Board Exam

In a similar incident, on May 8, a Class 12 student from Papanasam in Thanjavur district took her own life, fearing failure in the board exams, only to be later found among the successful candidates. The student, Aartika (17), was a resident of Padugai Puduch Street and had recently appeared for the Higher Secondary (Class 12) Examinations, held between March 3 and March 25, 2025.

She sat for her exams at the Government Girls' Higher Secondary School in Papanasam and was awaiting the results, which were released on May 8 by the Tamil Nadu Directorate of Government Examinations.

On the day before the result day, Aartika was found unresponsive in a cowshed behind her house. Her parents, after not seeing her for some time, went searching and found her hanging by her dupatta, as per a report on ABP Nadu. She was rushed to the Papanasam Government Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Preliminary investigations by Papanasam police suggest that the fear of failing the examination may have driven her to take the drastic step. Tragically, her results revealed that she had in fact passed the exam with commendable scores.
