A suspected cattle smuggler lost his life and six others were injured when their cow-laden vehicle overturned as they drove on the wrong side of the road while being pursued by police early in Gurugram, Haryana on Thursday, officials said.


In the response, a police spokesperson stated that the injured smugglers were admitted to a hospital. He also said that the body of the deceased will be handed over to his family after the postmortem.


According to a report by news PTI, police confirmed that members of the Cow Protection Cell observed people loading cows into a pickup truck near the bus stand in Manesar. Upon spotting the police, the suspects drove off toward Pachgaon Bilaspur road.


While trying to evade the police, they got caught in a traffic jam at Pachgaon Chowk. In an attempt to escape, the pickup truck accelerated, struck a divider, and overturned. Police arrested them around 3:30 am.


All Five Accused Arrested


Police further added that seven alleged cattle smugglers were detained, but one was found trapped under the vehicle and had died in the crash. Four cows were discovered tightly packed inside the truck.


Sahzad, a resident of Nuh died during the accident while Munna, Mubarik alias Utawaria, Mafiq Ali, Shaukeen alias Sunday, Irsad alias Langda and Salam sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.


The suspects have previous criminal records, including charges of attempted murder, cattle smuggling, and POCSO violations. "After registering the FIR, all five accused have been arrested and we are questioning them," the spokesperson of Gurugram Police said.
