A woman was raped in her home while her husband was held hostage by robbers, who, then fled with Rs 30,000 cash and a bracelet. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, in Surat, Gujarat.
The woman, 30, hails from Uttar Pradesh, while her husband is from Gujarat. The incident came to light when the couple approached the police station on Thursday. According to The Indian Express, the police said that the incident occurred between 3 and 4:30 am.
As per the report, the couple was asleep when the robbers entered the flat on the third floor of a four-storey building. The accused tied the man while they held him at knifepoint, they took the cash and the bracelet. They dragged the woman to the terrace where they gang-raped her. She was threatened so she wouldn’t raise any alarm.
The police said that they were able to get CCTV footage of the entrance of the apartment building. Based on the complaint, the police have registered an offence under various sections of the BNS, including kidnapping, gang rape, and robbery with forceful confinement, against two unknown persons
A medical examination was conducted of the victims, the police told the news outlet.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Alok Kumar told The Times Of India, "We have some important leads on the accused. We are hopeful that we will arrest them soon."
According to TOI, the victim had previously seen one of the accused in a local market, and her husband had also encountered the accused before. Police have obtained call detail records (CDR) of persons of interest in the case.
"We are investigating if the victim has been associated with the accused in any manner or not," an officer was quoted in the report.
