A school principal allegedly killed a six-year-old student, who studied in Class 1, after she resisted his rape attempts in Gujarat's Dahod district. The body of the girl was found dumped on the school premises with her bag and shoes lying near the classroom on September 19. The 55-year-old accused, who confessed to committing the crime, has been arrested. He said he tried to molest the girl and smothered her to death when she started shouting.

The post-mortem examination showed that the girl was suffocated to death, following which a total of 10 teams were formed to investigate the case.

Girl Would Go To School With Principal Every Day

The girl's mother said she used to go to the school with the principal in his car every day. On the day of incident, the girl's parents asked the principal about her whereabouts after she didn't return home. The Principal replied that he went for his work after dropping her at the school. When police cheked his mobile phone location, it was found that he reached school late that day.

"He picked up the girl from her home at around 10.20 am. Her mother helped her get into the principal's car and saw her off. But she never reached the school. The school's students and teachers confirmed this. On the way to school, the principal tried to sexually assault her, and she started shouting," NDTV reported citing a police officer.

Gujarat Education Minister Kuber Dindor said he had told police to get to the bottom of the case.
"I am pained by this. We were following this up for three days. We had told police to get to the bottom of this. The principal has been arrested. I condemn this incident and we will take steps to ensure such crimes are not repeated," he said.

The Principal has been arrested under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
