In Greater Noida's Ajnara Homes society, over 200 people fall sick within just two days, leading to widespread concern about the potential contamination in the society's water supply. According to Times Of India report, the situation has led to many residents suffering from stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, with at least one person hospitalised on Monday.
“The situation is alarming. Many complained of symptoms after drinking the tap water. The most affected are children and old-aged people,” said a resident from J Tower, one of the worst-hit blocks in the housing society, reports Times Now.
Chandan Sinha, the president of the Apartment Owners Association (AOA) at Ajnara Homes, said, “More than 200 residents reported illness. The most affected towers are M, J, K, and A. However, on Tuesday, almost all the towers’ residents complained of similar issues.”
He suspects that the contaminated groundwater may be the culprit. “It is suspected that the groundwater supply of the society is contaminated because if the overhead tanks were affected, it would affect only one tower, as each tower has individual overhead tanks,” Sinha added.
The residents have blamed both the local authority and the maintenance team of the society for the negligence, claiming that despite earlier warnings, no action was taken.
According to media reports, the health department visited the local after receiving the complaints. They also took water samples from the society. The AOA, meanwhile, working with the nearby private hospitals, organised two private health camps on Monday.
“A health camp will be set up from Wednesday at the society. The health department collected data and inspected the society. Reports will be made available soon,” said Narendra Kumar, CMO, Noida.
