Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said the media industry is undergoing a major transition and it is important to examine the role of traditional media and how it can adapt to these transformations.

Speaking at the Storyboard18 DNPA Conclave 2025 in New Delhi, Ashwini Vaishnaw shared the importance of examining the role of traditional media and shared how the government is working for fair compensation for media houses.

While inaugurating the conclave, the Union Minister outlined the vision for fostering a digital news ecosystem that is both credible and efficient.

The Storyboard18 DNPA Conclave, held on Thursday in New Delhi, was themed around 'Media Transformations in the AI Age', and served as a pivotal gathering for policymakers, media leaders, and tech experts to examine the ongoing impact of AI.

Here is the full speech of Ashwini Vaishnaw at the DNPA Conclave:

I extend my congratulations and appreciation to all my colleagues at DNPA for organising this event. This is a great conference. Through this conference, there will be excellent discussions on the transition from traditional media to new media in today's digital media landscape and the evolving world. I would certainly like to know the suggestions that emerge from these discussions.

Friends, the media world is going through a significant transition today. Alongside traditional media, which included newspapers and television as major mediums, digital media has emerged in a significant manner. In many spheres, particularly among the younger generations, there has been a complete shift from traditional media to digital media. In such a scenario, how do we perceive our role in traditional media? How do we adapt ourselves to this change? How do we manage this transition while ensuring the protection of employment opportunities related to the media industry? How do we address copyright issues and find solutions for them? How can we work towards fair compensation for traditional media?

There is also a need to consider how the importance of producers and content creators, and especially that of the content that goes through editorial checks before being published, receives due recognition. All these topics should be discussed in detail at this DNPA conference so that clear policy directions and policy recommendations emerge from this platform. From the government's side, we are fully prepared to provide any necessary support required during this transition.

The entire nation views the media with great responsibility, and it is expected that valuable suggestions will come from this conference on how this transition in the media industry can be together carried out smoothly, and without disruption.

I once again wish you all the very best. I hope that you will be able to come up with really practical suggestions, and look at the world from a very open mind, find the right ways of having this transition smooth.

Thank you very much. Wish you all the best.
