A young man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into homes at night and hitting sleeping women on the head in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The accused identified as Ajay Nishad faces multiple cases including murder.

In five such incidents in more than four months, one woman died and four others were injured. Police stated that the accused faces a 2022 child abuse case and he has been in prison for six months. After on bail, he shifted to Surat for a while before returning to Gorakhpur.

According to a report by NDTV, the first attack was done by him on the night of July 30, when he entered a house, hit a woman on the head, and fled with some jewellery.

According to the police, this incident marked the beginning of a pattern that Ajay Nishad would follow in subsequent crimes. "He started with a robbery. He attacked a woman and hit her on the head. He then adopted this as a modus operandi," senior police officer Dr Gaurav Grover said.

He added that the next crime took place on August 12, when the assault was more brutal, resulting in the victim's death. Police reported three more incidents on August 26, November 10, and November 14.

Crime Of Nishad Confirmed Through CCTV

Dr. Grover stated that the involvement of Nishad was confirmed through CCTV footage from the areas he targeted. "He has described the chain of events during questioning. We have also corroborated the statements by the complainants in all the cases to conclude that all these crimes were committed by him," he said.

Police said Some complainants had seen Nishad before he fled the scenes. "They had described him as a young man who always wore black clothes and remained barefoot. We questioned people and identified suspects based on these inputs," he said.

Police recovered several blunt objects, including an iron rod and a bed leg, believed to have been used in the attacks. They have pledged to present the case before a fast-track court and ensure Nishad faces stringent punishment.
