A goods train derailed in the early hours of Wednesday near the Bhima river bridge on the Hubballi-Solapur line in Karnataka, disrupting passenger services for the second time in under 24 hours. The derailment occurred at approximately 1:30 am when a pair of wheels from the trailing locomotive of an empty goods rake derailed between Lachyan and Tadwal in the Gadag-Hotgi section.

According to railway authorities, the incident happened when the trailing locomotive (49488) derailed at km 257/200, near Bridge No. 91 over the Bhima River, due to track settlement. The train was moving at a low speed of 12 km/h at the time, preventing any casualties or injuries. However, significant disruption followed as both the Up and Down lines were suspended indefinitely.

Several trains, including passenger services like the Hyderabad Express, have been affected due to track damage. Repair work is underway, but there is no timeline yet for the restoration of normal services.

The trains including Train No. 11305 Solapur – Hosapete, Train No. 07664 Raichur - Vijayapura, Train No. 17029 Vijayapura - Hyderabad and Train No. 07331 Solapur – SSS Hubballi was cancelled on Wednesday, as reported by The Hindu.

This marks the second derailment in the region within a 24-hour span, as reported by Money Control. However, the incident has raised concerns about track safety and maintenance on this key rail route. Passengers traveling through the Hubballi-Solapur section have been advised to check for updates on train schedules as services remain impacted.

Last month, a goods train consisting of 17 loaded wagons derailed between Sonalim and Dudhsagar stations in the Braganza Ghat section of the Hubballi Division at 9:35 am. Hubballi's Divisional Railway Manager, Harsh Khare, along with other senior officials, promptly went to the site to oversee the restoration efforts. Due to the derailment, several trains were either diverted or cancelled.
