A woman and her son died in a highway crash in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad on Sunday night when their two-wheeler hit a car that was driving on the wrong side of the road. A CCTV clip of the accident has now gone viral.
The incident occurred on the Ghaziabad section of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in the Wave City area. The accident occurred when an Alto, coming from the wrong direction, hit their scooter. The mother-son duo was returning home after bathing in the Ganga in Haridwar.
While returning, they took the Delhi-Meerut Expressway to reach Delhi. According to the police, the accused driver got on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway to go from Bhojpur to Vijay Nagar. He had to take a cut towards Dasna and get on the NH-9. But he missed the turn. He realized his mistake after reaching the bypass. And decided to retrace his way back to the cut.
Ghaziabad Accident Car Driver Arrested
The deceased were identified as 20-year-old Yash Gautam, a resident of Vinod Nagar in Delhi, and his 40-year-old mother Manju. The accused Alto car driver, Devdutt, a resident of Ghaziabad's Vijay Nagar, has been arrested. Devdutt used to run a clinic. Two-wheelers and three-wheelers are completely banned on the Delhi Meerut Expressway. Despite this, the mother and son riding a scooter entered the expressway.
Ghaziabad ACP Poonam Mishra said that around 8 PM on July 21, the scooter was hit by the Alto coming from the wrong side on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway under Wave City Police Station. Yash and his mother were seriously injured in the accident and had to be admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
However, both of them passed away at night during the treatment. Their family has lodged a complaint against the Alto driver.
