A fire broke out at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport in Kolkata on Wednesday just as top industry leaders arrived for the Bengal Global Business Summit. The fire broke out near the conveyor belt during construction work.
The fire broke out near the conveyor belt during welding work. The flakes from the welding torch triggered the fire, spreading panic throughout the airport.
The fire was brought under control within a short time by the staff and workers.
Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed that Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and JSW Managing Director Sajjan Jindal will participate in the Bengal Global Business Summit starting on Wednesday.
The CM, however, expressed doubts on whether Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Togba will attend the business summit or not. Togba had participated in the business summit in October, 2024.
Banerjee said among the 40 countries visiting the summit, 20 are partner countries and 200 delegates are attending the BGBS.
Other industry leaders expected to attend the summit include, Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, ITC's Sanjeev Puri, and Jyotsana Suri of the Lalit Suri Hospitality Group.

In another incident at the NSC Bose International Airport on Wednesday, the body of a CISF constable was found hanging in the barracks of the force.
Officials told news agency PTI that the body of the constable was found in the barracks of the International cargo section at around 10:40 AM. The constable was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
