Financial influencer Abhishek Kar has issued an apology for a controversial statement he made on Assam women which drew legal action against him. The action against the 'finfluencer' came after a clip of the podcast where he made the remark went viral.

However, following the outrage, Kar issued an apology on Saturday saying he was not doing it intentionally nor wanted to create chaos and apologised to all those whose sentiments were hurt.

"Apologies to people, @CMOfficeAssam, @gpsinghips and every concerned party who was hurt," wrote Kar who identifies himself as a 'trader, investor and mentor' in his YouTube channel description. "The intent wasn't to hurt anyone and it will be kept in mind going forward that such incidents don't (sic) happen again," he said.

The influencer also promised to make sure that he will be "more vigilant in research before using existing secondary data".

The problem for Kar began when he claimed in the podcast that there exists a village in Assam where women turn men into goats or other animals. What followed this was more shocking:  At night they turn you back into men and engage in sambhog (physical relations) with them... They have such power."

The influencer was referring to  Assam's Mayong in Morigaon district, which is known for its mystic practices and tales of "magic". However, "magic" and mysticism are linked more to the traditional medicines and cures for ailments.

The remark caught the attention of Assam government and the Chief Minister's Officer asked the police to pursue the matter.

"A video from a YouTube channel, named Riya Upreti, is in circulation where an individual named Abhishek Kar is seen making unacceptable comments on Assam's history and traditions. Appropriate action may be initiated against the said individual for spreading misinformation," the CMO posted on X on Friday.

In response, Director General of Police GP Singh said, "Noted Sir. Lawful action shall be taken. Warm regards." A case was booked against Kar for his derogatory comments and for spreading misinformation, a senior police officer said, reported PTI.
