Joint Platform of Doctors, West Bengal has demanded an unconditional apology from Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee over one of his posts on social media.
The Diamond Harbour MP claimed that a boy from Konnagar died after not receiving medical treatment due to protests by doctors in response to the rape and murder of the trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
"A young boy from Konnagar lost his life today following a road accident, after BLEEDING FOR 3 HOURS WITHOUT RECEIVING MEDICAL ATTENTION, a consequence of the ongoing protest by doctors in response to the #RGKar incident," Banerjee said on X on Friday.
The doctors' association dismissed Banerjee's post as "false and misleading".
In a statement dated September 8, the doctors' association said that the patient was referred to a higher centre from Srirampur and was received at R.G. Kar Medical College promptly the same day.
"The doctors on duty immediately attended to him and continued to provide medical care at several intervals until his unfortunate demise at 12:30 PM, as noted in the provisional death certificate," the statement read further.
"The bed head tickets as well as the statement of the MSVP of RGKMCH will categorically substantiate our claim and refute your post," it added.
The Joint Platform of Doctors also refuted the claim that the boy bled for three hours saying the assertion "lacks any foundation in truth" and demanded an unconditional apology from the TMC leader.

The doctors have been protesting in West Bengal demanding justice for the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The statewide protests have crippled the medical services as doctors refuse to join their duties. On Monday during the hearing of the rape and murder case in the Supreme Court, senior advocate Kapil Sabil filed a status report and submitted that 23 people have died when the doctors were not working.
