Junagadh Bulldozer Action: The district administration in Junagadh, Gujarat, has taken action against illegal encroachments. A bulldozer operation was carried out under police supervision near the Uparkot Fort extension in Junagadh. Excavators and diggers rolled into the area on Wednesday morning as the authorities prepared to raze the illegal structures.
Junagadh SDM Charansingh Gohil told news agency ANI, "Illegal encroachments are being removed from the area around the extension of the Uparkot Fort in Junagadh. A total of 59 encroachments have been removed so far. The residents were given notices earlier but they did not budge. So, the administration is carrying out a bulldozer operation today. We are doing this work with the help of the police."
Stringent Security Arrangements
Over 100 illegal structures were demolished in Dharagarh Darwaza, Junagadh, as part of an anti-encroachment drive. Over 260 police personnel, including 3 DYSOs, 9 PIs, and 26 PSIs, were deployed for security. Drones were used for surveillance to ensure no untoward incidents occurred.
Biggest Bulldozer Action In Ahmedabad
Earlier, on Tuesday, April 29, large-scale demolition of illegal constructions was carried out in Ahmedabad. Bulldozers were used against illegal settlements near Chandola Lake. Police Commissioner (crime) Sharad Singhal said that mostly Bangladeshis lived in the area. Over 100 Bangladeshis living illegally were identified. The anti-encroachment action was carried out in those Bangladeshi settlements.
Another mega demolition drive will be carried out in Chandola in soon, police said. Electricity connections to the illegal Bangladeshi settlements were snapped before the demolition drive. Eighty bulldozers were brought in to remove the encroachments.
