The Delhi Police has arrested a wanted criminal in a murder case after an encounter broke out on Monday night in Delhi's Seelampur.


The arrested criminal, identified as Talib (20), fired several rounds at the cops. Fortunately, it hit the bulletproof jacket of the police.


A senior police offical said, "At about 1.40 AM, one person was noticed by the team, on asking him to stop for checking he whipped put a pistol and fired a shot towards the police team. Somehow the team members saved themselves. The team warned the person that we are the police team and you must surrender, but paying no heed to police warning, he fired again, this time the bullet hit the BP jacket of HC Navneesh." He added that in order to save his team members and in self-defence, another constable fired back at the assilant and the bullet hit the left leg of the arrested criminal. The accused was later taken to JPC hospital and was provided with medical assistance.


The police has said that one country-made pistol has been recovered from the accused. An FIR u/s 221/132/109(1) BNS & 25/27 Arms Act has been registered in P.S Seelampur, Delhi and further investigation is in progress.


The officer added that the accused was involved in various incidents of robbery and snatching. As per the details provided by the police, Talib was involved in attacking two people Lallan and Raj Kishore with a knife. While Lallan survived the attack, Raj Kishore succumbed to the injuries. An FIR was registered in this case on October 14, under various sections of BNS. The police said that Talib was accompanied with two people in this October's case, one was a minor and another was identified as Asif. While Asif was arrested on October 16, Talib was absconding to evade his arrest. He was also found previously involved in three cases snatching, theft and Arms Act.
