Delhi Records Two More Covid-19 Deaths, Active Caseload At 562

Delhi faces rising COVID-19 concerns with two new deaths, including a five-month-old infant. The city, second to Kerala in case numbers, currently has 562 active cases.

Amid an increase in the number of Corona cases, Delhi has recorded two fresh deaths, including a five-month-old baby, reports news agency PTI quoting officials on Thursday. Delhi has the second-highest number of cases after Kerala and has 562 active cases, and it has recorded seven fatalities since January 1 this year. According to the Covid-19 dashboard by the Union Health Ministry, Delhi has seen a surge of 105 cases since Wednesday. A five-month-old boy suffering from cerebral palsy, seizure disorder and pneumonia with sepsis and respiratory failure died after testing positive for infection.

An 87-year-old man, who was immunocompromised and suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and heart and kidney ailments, along with COVID pneumonia, also succumbed after being infected. India's active COVID cases stand at 4,866, with Kerala remaining the most affected state, followed by Delhi, West Bengal, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

On Wedensday, all states have been instructed to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines in view of rising cases of Covid, reports PTI, quoting official sources. A series of technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the chairpersonship of Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Sunita Sharma. 

The meeting was held with representatives of Disaster Management Cell, Emergency Management Response (EMR) Cell, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and central government hospitals in Delhi and with representatives from all states and Union territories to evaluate the current Covid situation and preparedness measures.

The official sources said most cases are mild and managed under home care.Since January 1, 44 deaths have been reported, primarily among individuals with pre-existing illnesses, they said.States have been instructed to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines, the source said as quoted by news agency PTI.
