One person has been arrested after a Delhi Police Constable was killed by a speeding car in the national capital. The car had dragged the 30-year-old constable, identified as Sandeep, for 10 meters before another car hit him. The constable suffered severe head injuries in the accident.
Police have arrested Rajneesh alias Sittu, who was sitting in the car at the time of the accident, from Noida. However, the man who was driving the car is still on the run. Earlier, some reports claimed that one of the occupants in the car was a liquor smuggler.
Sandeep was in civilian clothes and was on his way to the railway station during duty hours to check on instances of burglary in the area around 2.15 AM on Sunday, when he spotted a Wagon R being driven recklessly. He asked the car driver not to drive so fast, following which the driver tried to overtake him and hit his bike from behind. The accused then abandoned the car at the scene of the crime and fled. Police seized the vehicle on Sunday.
Guard Of Honour For Constable Sandeep
Delhi Police paid tribute to the constable in a Guard of Honour ceremony at his village Madina in Haryana's Sonipat district. "His unparalleled service and unwavering devotion to duty will never be forgotten," the Delhi Police said. The constable is survived by his mother, wife and a five-year-old son.
"There was probably a verbal exchange between him and the driver, police had said on Sunday. "When he was taking a left turn on Veena Enclave and crossed another four-wheeler, he asked them to stop. But then the car hit him and dragged him for 10 meters. Prima facie, it looks like road rage but once the accused is apprehended we will know further...," said Jimmy Chiram, DCP outer Delhi Police.
