A Delhi Police Constable was killed by a speeding car when he asked the driver to stop during a patrolling duty in Delhi's Nangloi area in the early hours of Sunday. The car dragged the 30-year-old constable, identified as Sandeep, for 10 meters before another car hit him. The constable suffered severe head injuries in the accident. Some reports allege that one of the occupants in the car was a liquor smuggler.
There was probably a verbal exchange between him and the driver, police said. "When he was taking a left turn on Veena Enclave and crossed another four-wheeler, he asked them to stop. But then the car hit him and dragged him for 10 meters. Prima facie, it looks like road rage but once the accused is apprehended we will know further...," Jimmy Chiram, DCP outer Delhi Police, said.
The car has been recovered but the driver is absconding. A murder case has been registered in connection with the incident. The constable is survived by his mother, wife and a five-year-old son.
In another hit-and-run case in Delhi, a lawyer was mowed down by an unidentified vehicle near Murga Mandi in Ghazipur area of East Delhi. The 45-year-old lawyer, Mithilesh Choubey, was returning home from court on his bike at around 11 pm on Wednesday night when the accident took place near Ghazipur Murga Mandi. Mithilesh fell on the road and the vehicle crushed him, leading to his death on the spot.
A CCTV footage of the area is being examined to identify the vehicle. Delhi Police have registered a case into the incident and launched an investigation. The deceased is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. The family lived in a rented house in GD Colony of Mayur Vihar Phase 3.
