Delhi: Over a hundred people gathered near Delhi’s Govindpuri police station on Tuesday night, protesting against the police’s inaction in an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault case involving a minor boy. Police stated that the victim's family along with a few locals clashed with them while they were trying to arrest an accused in the case.
The police had to use mild force to disperse the protestors gathered at the police station as the situation escalated. Following this, a police officer said that the situation was brought under control and that they were trying to speak with the victim's family, TOI reported.
Police also carried out a flag march and deployment of the security forces was increased to maintain law and order in the area.
5-Yr-Old Boy Kidnapped, Raped In Delhi
A five-year-old boy, a resident of JJ colony near the Govindpuri police station, had gone missing from his home on Saturday. The next day, the victim's mother filed a complaint following which the police lodged a case of kidnapping.
"The investigation was done and, in the meantime, on Saturday around 12:30pm, the boy was found in the area by his family. He was taken to the police station. He was medically examined the same day at AIIMS Delhi," a senior police officer told Hindustan Times.
Subsequently, police recorded statements of those involved and the minor was sent to a care home with his family. As per DCP Rajesh Deo, the family had not alleged any sexual assault till Monday. Even when the boy's statement was recorded before the magistrate no inciminating revelation (related to rape) was stated by him or his family.
However, when the minor boy was taken to Child Welfare Committee on Tuesday afternoon, he told officials that he was "inappropriately touched" by his kidnapper. The CWC officials then asked the police to take the boy to the magistrate again to record a fresh statement.
35-Yr-Old Neighbour Detained After Locals Allege His Involvement
The DCP further said that the boy was reunited with his parents afterwards. It was on Tuesday evening at 7:20 PM that they received a call from the victim's family, which said that the boy had been raped and needed help, HT reported.
When the police reached the colony locals alleged that a 35-year-old man, who was the boy's neighbour, kidnapped and sexually assaulted the minor. However, the police weren't able to detain him since the locals who had gathered in large numbers began a protest. Later, they even blocked Sri Lal Chowk in Govindpuri.
Speaking to media persons, the boy’s aunt said: "We found our boy almost 12 hours after he was kidnapped. He was lying on the street. Within a few hours, we found that he was allegedly raped. He had injuries all over his private parts and rushed to the police, but they misbehaved with my sister and me".
The victim's family alleged that they went to court but the police did not hear to what they had to say. Later, the child confided in CWC officials. The police have denied the allegations against them and said that the accused has been booked under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) Act.
"The local police managed to bring the accused to the police station safely despite the huge crowd. The crowd gathered at the gate of the police station. The police tried to pacify them and assured them of strict action against the accused," said the DCP.
The FIR stated that the five-year-old boy was kidnapped, raped repeatedly and drugged by the accused. He was abandoned after the accused assumed he was dead, TOI reported.
After interception by senior officials, the crowd was removed by Tuesday night. Police has assured to take strict action in the matter.
