A man in Delhi's Shahdara murdered his cousin and stuffed her dead body in a bag setting it on fire. The accused along with one of his friends have been arrested by the police in connection with the matter.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday and the accused and his friend were arrested by the police with the help of CCTV footage.

The victim was in a relationship with a man from another religion due to which her marriage was fixed by the family with a man from Surat. But the woman eloped with her Muslim lover before the marriage could take place.

However, the Muslim man also left the woman and went away after which the girl returned to her cousin who killed her in a rented flat in Delhi's Ghazipur area. He then bought a bag for Rs 1,200 stuffed her dead body inside the bag and set fire to it.

Two CCTV footage were recovered from the scene. In the first footage at 1:53 am on Sunday, a car was seen approaching the crime spot and a bag was thrown from inside the car before it left the spot.

The car stopped at the spot for around 1 minute and 15 seconds.

In the second clip, recorded at 2:13 am, a person was seen returning to the spot and trying to burn the bag. The person tried to set fire to the bag twice and fled the spot once the task was done.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, Abhishek Dhania said a PCR call was received at around 4:10 am informing about a burnt body. The police reached the spot but the body was burnt beyond recognition, the DCP said.

According to forensic evidence, "it can be said that the deceased is between 20-35 years of age," Dhania said, adding four teams are investigating the matter, reported ANI.

A police officer said the case is under investigation and attempts are being made to identify the victim, reported The Times of India.

"We have obtained some CCTV footage, which suggests that the car from which the bag was thrown came from the Kondli side. It appears that the woman was murdered elsewhere and her body was dumped in Gazipur," the police officer added.

Cops have registered a case under various sections including murder and destruction of evidence and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
