Four people, including a brother-sister pair, lost their lives and a woman was injured after a major fire broke out at a footwear shop in south Delhi’s Tigri Extension on Saturday evening, police said.
The fire originated at the shop located on the ground floor of a four-storey building around 6.24 pm and quickly swept through the structure. Police and fire officials rushed to the scene after receiving a PCR call, but found the entire building engulfed in flames.
According to a senior police officer, three people were declared dead at the site while two injured women were rescued and taken to the hospital. One of them later succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Satender, also known as Jimmy (38), the owner of the building, and his sister Anita (40). The injured survivor, Mamta (40), has suffered around 25 per cent burn injuries. Identification of the remaining deceased is still underway.
Crime and forensic teams have been called in to examine the site as authorities work to determine the cause of the blaze. Police said evidence collection is ongoing, and a detailed investigation has begun.
