Five members of the same family were found dead under suspicious circumstances on Friday in their home in the Rangpuri area of Delhi. The deceased include a father and his four daughters, whose bodies were discovered by police on Friday morning around 10:30 AM.

The police suspect poisoning. According to initial investigations, the police believe the father may have administered the poison to his daughters before consuming it himself. However, the exact sequence of events will be confirmed after a detailed post-mortem report and further investigation.

The event came to light when the caretaker of the building where the family lived found a foul smell emanating from within the house. He knocked on the door but the tenants did not open. He then informed the owner of the building, Nitin Chauhan. Nitin reached the building and called the Vasant Kunj South police station and informed the cops that something was amiss.

When the cops reached the spot, they found the door locked from inside. They had to break down the door to enter the house, where they discovered the five bodies. The deceased were identified as 46-year-old Heeralal Sharma, and his daughters Neetu (26), Nikki (24), Neeru (23), and Nidhi (20).

Neighbours said Heeralal, a carpenter by profession, had been struggling after his wife passed away from cancer a year ago. CCTV footage shows him entering the house on September 24, after which the door remained locked from the inside.

Heeralal's brother Mohan Sharma said that the former stopped taking interest in family affairs after the death of his wife and was always occupied with the treatment of his daughters. The girls hardly came out of their rooms. The family were last seen on September 24 by the neighbours. Among the daughters, one was visually impaired, and another had difficulty walking, adding to the family's challenges.

No injury marks were found on the bodies. However, three packets of insecticide, 5 glasses, and a suspicious liquid were found inside the house.  A police investigation has been launched to uncover more details about the incident.
