The Delhi-Darbhanga Special Train (number 04068) derailed at Harinagar railway station in Bihar's West Champaran district early Thursday, causing panic among passengers. No injuries or casualties were reported. Officials from the Samastipur Railway Division confirmed that four wheels of coach 153735/GSLRD derailed as the train entered track No. 4. The incident temporarily closed the down line, while the up line remained operational. After a delay of approximately four hours, the train resumed its journey to Darbhanga around 4 am.
Station Master Ritesh Kumar attributed the prevention of a major accident to the train's reduced speed. “The derailment involved four wheels of a bogie, but all passengers are safe. If the speed had not been reduced, the consequences could have been severe,” he stated.
A team from the Samastipur Railway Division has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the derailment. The inquiry will assess whether the tracks were damaged or improperly maintained and whether operational checks were conducted before the train's arrival.
