Cyclone Fengal: A flight failed to make a landing at the Chennai airport on Saturday due to gusty winds during cyclone Fengal's landfall on Saturday. A video that has surfaced on social media showed the plane shaking due to high-speed winds, and eventually aborting the landing. There were no reports of any injuries in the incident.






Cyclone Fengal crossed the North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts during the early hours of Sunday morning and is likely to continue moving west-southwestward, weakening into a deep depression within the next few hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The weather department has warned of heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu till December 2.


Flight operations at Chennai airport also resumed this morning after around 16 hours. The Chennai airport advised passengers to reach out to their respective airlines for information regarding their flights.


Many passengers were stranded due to disruptions in services. News agency PTI reported that over 10,000 people may have been impacted by cancellations and diversions.


Army Evacuates 100 People In Puducherry


Meanwhile, the Indian Army evacuated over 100 people from Puducherry. The rescue operations started at 6:15 am today. Several beaches across Chennai such as the Marina, and Elliot Beach face high tides and rough sea conditions. The IMD said Puducherry will face extremely heavy rainfall today, followed by moderate rains on Monday.


Several parts of Tamil Nadu, such as Kallakurichi, Tiruvallur, are facing heavy rainfall along with gusty winds. The IMD has also warned of flash floods in suburban areas. Due to heavy rains, flooding happened everywhere in Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu last night. The bus stand got completely inundated, as a result, the buses are now operating from outside the bus stand.
