A clash reportedly broke out between ABVP and Leftist student organisations over alleged derogatory remarks on 'Lord Ram' and 'Savarkar' during a speech on Monday night at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. The clash allegedly occurred at the University General Body Meeting regarding the formation of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). However, tempers ran high at the meeting as several issues were discussed. Information of a fight between the ABVP and Leftist organisations at JNU.
According to ABVP, a Left leader insulted Savarkar and Lord Ram in his speech. ABVP JNU unit Secretary Shika Swaraj, was quoted by news website The Statesman as alleging that the left parties were only talking rubbish about the BJP student organisation. She alleged that the All India Students’ Association (AISA) was not talking about the ICC and was not ready to address the meeting agenda. AISA, on the other hand, accused the ABVP of trying to "hijack" the meeting by snatching the microphone from the speakers and assaulting its members.
The clash between the members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the students' wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Leftist student organisations when derogatory remarks were allegedly made on 'Lord Ram' and 'Vinayak Damodar Savarkar' at a speech during the meeting.
At first, it was only an argument. The quarrel quickly escalated to fisticuffs during the meeting. Jawaharlal Nehru Union Students' Union (JNUSU) Joint Secretary Sajid was allegedly threatened during the fight. He alleged that he would be made to "disappear" like Najeeb.
Najeeb Ahmed, a prominent student activist, was a JNU student who went missing in 2016. The JNUSU claimed that the ABVP was behind Najeeb's disappearance. His assault was alleged to have been related to an assault on October 14.
JNUSU Students Union President Dhananjay alleges that ABVP students called him a lowlife due to his "Dalit identity".
