In a chilling video from Navi Mumbai's Sanpada area, an SUV was caught running over at least two persons on Diwali night. The victims sustained injuries in the incident but were safe. It is still unclear how the incident unfolded. A video of the incident, which occurred at 11:50 PM on Thursday, is now being widely shared.
Some media reports suggested that the accident occurred while the Scorpio driver was trying to park the SUV, while others suggested that the driver deliberately ran over the men. News website The Times of India reported that the driver was allegedly thrashed by the two men and their friends after the incident. The driver sustained injuries as a result of the assault and had to be hospitalised.
The video of the incident is given below. Viewers' discretion is advised.
According to the report, the incident occurred in Sector 14 outside a restaurant. The two men who were hit by the car had an altercation with a youth on a bike who rammed his bike into their sedan parked outside the restaurant. When asked to pay for the damage, the youth got into an argument with the men. The argument quickly escalated into a fight and the youth sped away after being assaulted.
He went to a nearby society and narrated the incident to his brother who worked as a security guard there. TOI quoted inspector Sanjay Nale of the Sanpada Police Station as saying: "The guard informed a resident of the building who went to confront the men outside the restaurant. Following an argument, he allegedly tried to run the men over with his Scorpio."
The video of the incident showed the Scorpio come to a screeching halt after hitting the men. He was then allegedly assaulted, landing him in the hospital. Both sides have registered complaints with the police.
