Several parts of Chennai will face scheduled power cuts on Friday, June 13, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM due to essential maintenance work by TANGEDCO. The outage comes at a time when the city is reeling under sweltering conditions, with no major relief in sight despite cloudy skies.

The power disruption is expected to affect major residential and commercial zones in Sembakkam, Pallavaram West, and Medavakkam. TANGEDCO has cited reasons including tree cutting, AB switch maintenance, re-sagging of HT/LT lines, replacement of polymer insulators, cut point jumper renewal, and installation of new switches as part of the maintenance drive.

Though TANGEDCO has issued prior notice, residents are likely to face significant inconvenience due to the ongoing heat and humidity. The weather department has forecast cloudy skies, but no substantial rainfall or temperature drop, adding to public discomfort.

Authorities have urged residents in the affected areas to plan accordingly, especially those working from home or with medical needs, as the shutdown could impact cooling systems and digital infrastructure.

In the meantime, residents can find respite from the heat by visiting malls, cafés, libraries, hotels, parks or metro stations that remain powered during outages.
