Starting September 1, new Chennai-Nagercoil Vande Bharat Express, which was virtually flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, will help passengers to travel from Chennai to Nagercoil in less than 9 hours. The train is set to provide the fastest rail connection to Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India, and promises to enhance connectivity to key industrial, business, and tourist hubs in Tamil Nadu, including Trichy, Madurai, Dindigul, and Tirunelveli.
Chennai-Nagercoil Vande Bharat Express Schedule
According to Southern Railways, the Vande Bharat Express will depart from Chennai Egmore at 5:00 AM and reach Nagercoil by 1:50 PM, covering a distance of 726 kilometers in just 8 hours and 50 minutes. The train will stop at seven stations: Tambaram, Villupuram, Tiruchirappalli, Dindigul, Madurai, Kovilpatti, and Tirunelveli. For those looking to travel to Kanyakumari, which is about 20 kilometers from Nagercoil, a short rail or road journey will complete the trip.
“This new train service will significantly reduce the travel time between Chennai and Kanyakumari compared to the existing direct trains, which take approximately 12 hours,” a Southern Railways official explained, as per a report on PTI. “Vande Bharat offers a quicker and more comfortable travel option."
The Chennai-Nagercoil Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week, with a capacity to carry 1,128 passengers in 16 coaches. The return journey is scheduled to depart from Nagercoil at 2:20 PM and arrive at Chennai Egmore by 11:00 PM on the same day.
A Special Gift for Malayali Travelers
The Chennai-Nagercoil Vande Bharat Express also comes as an added Onam gift for Malayali travelers, as reported by Manorama. Passengers from Kerala’s southern districts, such as Thiruvananthapuram, can take the train to Nagercoil and then travel by bus to their destinations in Kerala.The passengers can also travel to Kovalam, Colachel and Neyyattinkara.
This new service promises to make travel faster and more convenient, providing a world-class experience to passengers across Tamil Nadu and neighboring states.
