A vehicle carrying pilgrims from Jharkhand's Giridih to Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj met with an accident late Thursday night. One woman was killed and several others were injured in the accident.

The car they were travelling in collided with a truck on NH-19 in Kaimur district in Bihar.

40 Maha Kumbh Pilgrims Injured In Bus Accident In UP

As many as forty Maha Kumbh pilgrims were injured on Thursday when a bus travelling from Delhi to Prayagraj hit a truck on the Etawah-Kanpur highway in Bakewar area in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah, police said.

The accident took place around 7 AM near Mahewa town when the bus hit a truck from the rear side, said Bakewar Police Station in-charge Bhupendra Singh Rathi told news agency PTI.

The bus was carrying 55 pilgrims at the time of the accident, he added.

Around 40 passengers were rushed to the district hospital after getting injured in the incident. Out of these, four were seriously injured and were referred to Saifai Medical College for advanced treatment. Police said that preliminary investigations suggest the accident occurred after the bus driver fell asleep while driving.

Earlier today, a fire broke out at the ISKON camp in Mahakumbh Nagar on Friday and spread to over a dozen camps causing significant damage. No casualties have been reported, Chief Fire Officer Pramod Sharma told PTI.

Maha Kumbh DIG Vaibhav Krishna said the fire incident has been controlled by the fire brigades. 

Another massive fire broke out in the Maha Kumbh Mela in Sector 19 on January 19. The explosion took place due to a cylinder blast. No casualties were reported, but the blaze had left more than a dozen camps gutted.
