Days after chaos erupted during a feast hosted by BJP MP in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at the party saying that 'the mutton war' has been recorded for the first time in history.
"Some incident in your constituency has become very popular. I did not know that a mutton war had also taken place here. We have seen different types of wars. This mutton war has been recorded in history," Akhilesh Yadav told the gathering at a rally in Majhawan.
The former UP chief minister was referring to a feast hosted by BJP's Bhadohi MP Vinod Kumar Bind at his office. The feast in Mirzapur's Karsada turned into a battleground as guests who were served gravy without any mutton pieces created a ruckus, according to a report in The Times of India.
The guest at the feast also slapped the youth serving the mutton leading to a chaotic scene that lasted several minutes, until senior party leaders intervened.
A video clip of people leaving the venue with food packets and the injured youth heading towards his motorcycle surfaced on social media.
The SP leader took a jibe at the BJP over the incident ahead of the bypoll in the seat on November 20.
"When he (Yogi Adityanath) realised the public was not supporting him, he put the officers and employees in the front. But the officers and employees know in their hearts that now the Bharatiya Janata Party will not be able to survive," the SP leader said at the rally.
The incident at Karsada unfolded after a youth, who joined the gathering, grew suspicious after he was served too much gravy in his bowl.
The person dipped a finger into his bowl and couldn't find a single mutton piece. When he asked the person serving the food about the missing meat pieces, he didn't get a satisfactory response. He then hurled abuse at the youth and slapped him, according to the Times of India report.
The incident later escalated into a clash between the youth's companions and the caterer, forcing the remaining guests to flee from the scene.
A local member of the BJP MP's office blamed some drunk youths who gatecrashed the feast just as the organisers were preparing to wrap up. Umashankar Bind reportedly said, "Some youths who had been consuming liquor at a country liquor shop entered the venue, which was restricted to limited invitees. The same youth caused disturbance and fled the scene."
Majhawan in Mirzapur district has been vacant since Vinod Kumar Bind, who was the Nishad party MLA from the seat, was elected as an MP on a BJP ticket. SP has fielded Jyoti Bind, daughter of Bhadohi MP Ramesh Bind from the seat against BJP candidate Suchismita Maurya.
