In a significant announcement ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled later this year, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday declared that domestic consumers in the state will get free electricity for up to 125 units of monthly consumption starting August 1.
Taking to the social media platform X, the Bihar CM said, "Wehavebeenprovidingelectricitytoeveryoneataffordableratesfromtheverybeginning.NowwehavedecidedthatfromAugust1,2025,thatis,fromtheJulybillitself,alldomesticconsumersinthestatewillnothavetopayanymoneyforelectricityupto125units."
Kumar said the movewillbenefitatotalof1crore67lakhfamiliesinthestate. "Wehavealsodecidedthatinthenextthreeyears,withtheconsentofallthesedomesticconsumers,solarpowerplantswillbeinstalledontheirrooftopsoratnearbypublicplacestoprovidebenefits," he added.
The measure is aimed at easing the financial burden of households, especially in rural and economically weaker sections.
