Bengaluru News: A 32-year-old man, identified as Shabarish, succumbed to injuries on 2nd November after allegedly accepting a dare to sit on a box of firecrackers set to explode, police revealed on Monday. The tragic incident, which occurred on Deepavali, involved Shabarish and six friends, all reportedly intoxicated at the time.
According to police, the group of friends gathered in Bengaluru’s Konanakunte area on 31st October, dared Shabarish to sit atop a box of lit firecrackers. As part of the challenge, they promised to buy him an autorickshaw if he went through with it, news agency PTI reported.
As per India Today, a senior police officer disclosed that Shabarish, who was unemployed, accepted the dangerous dare with hopes of improving his future by winning the promised vehicle.
The incident, captured on video and now circulating widely on social media, shows Shabarish’s friends stepping back after igniting the firecracker box. Moments later, a loud explosion occurs, sending Shabarish tumbling to the ground. The footage further reveals him on the ground as his friends surround him.

Severely injured, Shabarish was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by his friends. Despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries on 2nd November, police confirmed.
The Konanakunte police have arrested all six friends involved in the incident. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Bengaluru), Lokesh Jagalasar, confirmed the arrests and stated that the accused were charged with culpable homicide and produced before the court, PTI reported.
DCP South Lokesh stated that Shabarish was unemployed and accepted the challenge as he hoped to improve his future with the autorickshaw he was promised by his friends, as per India Today.
