An argument between a father and son over the teen's mobile addiction and lack of interest in studies led to his murder in Bengaluru. A man named Ravi Kumar killed his 14-year-old son on Friday in Bengaluru's Kumaraswamy Layout area by beating him up with a cricket bat and slamming his head against a wall after the argument. He even tried to cover up the murder.
The matter was unearthed after the police received a report about the suspicious death of a schoolboy. When they reached his home, they saw the teenager's bier was ready and his family was preparing for his last rites. However, the police did not allow it to happen.They took the body's custody and sent it for post-mortem.
Autopsy Revealed Teen Was Brutally Assaulted Before Deat
They were shocked to see the post-mortem report, which stated that the boy had passed away due to serious internal injuries on his head and also had several wounds on his body, hinting at a brutal assault before death.
Upon investigating, the police got to know that Ravi Kumar, a carpenter by profession, was extremely angry with his son, who was a Class 9 student, for his disinterest in studies. On the day of the incident, the father-son duo had got into an argument over getting a mobile phone repaired. Kumar, in a fit of rage, ended up beating his son Tejas with a cricket bat. But he was not done.
He reportedly smashed his son's head against a wall, saying: "It doesn't matter to me whether you live or die". Following this the boy dropped to the ground and continued to toss in pain but Kumar did not do anything about it. The boy's condition worsened from 8 AM to 2 PM. He was taken to a hospital only after he stopped responding. Tejas was declared dead on arrival by the doctors, the report said.
"There used to be heated arguments between the child and his parents. They were not happy about his performance in studies and his excessive use of mobile phone. They claimed he was also keeping bad company. And that led to the boy's murder," said Lokesh B, Deputy Commissioner Of Police (South) told NDTV.
Father Tried To Cover Up Murder
After murdering his child, the man even tried to hide the murder by cleaning blood stains from the body and began preparing for the last rites. He also hid the cricket bat. The police called this an attempt to destroy evidence which was carried out to make the case look like a normal death.
The deceased boy is survived by his parents and two younger siblings. The police have arrested the accused father and initiated an investigation into the case.
