A thief in West Bengal's Hooghly district was admitted to a hospital after he fell unconscious as people chased him, reported India Today quoting police sources.

The thief, along with an accomplice, stole utensils, a stove, and a gas cylinder from a temple in the Chuchura area of the Hooghly district but was caught red-handed in the act.

While the accomplice managed to flee the site, the locals chased the thief only to be surprised after seeing him trembling as he fell to the ground in an unconscious state.

The locals informed the police about the unusual turn of events and took the unconscious thief to a nearby hospital for treatment.

After regaining consciousness and undergoing treatment at the hospital, the thief was discharged arrested by the police and sent behind bars.

An investigation revealed that the thief was a patient with epilepsy and suffered an attack as he got nervous when a large mob chased him, as per the India Today report.

A police probe into the episode also revealed that the thieves were drug addicts. The duo hailed from Naihati in North 24 Parganas and had come to Hooghly to steal from houses and temples in Chuchura.

The other thief is still at large and a manhunt has been launched by the police to track him down.

In June this year, a thief fell asleep in a home in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow where he had entered to rob. As per the police, the man was heavily drunk and fell asleep inside the house upon finding an air conditioner and turning it on.

The incident took place in the Indiranagar area of the state capital. The house owner, Sunil Pandey, was away at the time of the incident. Upon finding the house empty, the man entered by opening the front gate of the house.

However, after noticing the air conditioner he switched it on and laid down comfortably on the floor, placing his head on a cushion and soon fell asleep. The man was later arrested by the police.
