A blast-like sound was heard near the Police Post Old Town in Kashmir’s Baramulla on Tuesday (March 4) night. The incident occurred around 9:20 pm and created panic among the residents in the area. There were no reports of casualties or damage following the incident.
In a press release by the Police Media Cell of Baramulla, security forces quickly cordoned off the area, and a search began by 10:40 pm. They recovered a grenade pin near the Police post, outside the boundary wall. The police suspect that it was an attempted grenade attack. The grenade detonated inside Police Post Old Town, in an area where there weren’t any people or property that could be damaged.
Residents asked to be vigilant
The forces have yet to locate a crater that could have been created by an explosion of a grenade.
A thorough investigation has been launched, and search operations in the area continue as authorities work to gather more information. Baramulla police have asked people to remain alert and to report any suspicious activities.
Last month, in a counter terrorism operation, security forces successfully recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a joint operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Rampur Sector of Baramulla.
According to ANI, acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of concealed weapons, a search operation was launched on February 3 in the Anganpathri area.
The security teams discovered the arms cache hidden inside a hollow pine tree in a densely forested region. The weapons were wrapped in a blanket and carefully concealed to avoid detection. Security forces recovered items including 3 AK-47 Rifles, 11 magazines, 292 bullets, an Under-Barrel Grenade Launcher, 9 UBGL Grenades and two Hand Grenades. A case was registered under FIR Boniyar at the Police Station Boniyar.
