Following the incident of sexual abuse at a school in Badlapur, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday issued a directive to all the schools in the state to install CCTV cameras on their premises within a month. The failure to comply with the order may result in severe consequences such as revocation of the permission to operate, said the order issued by School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar.
Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla on Wednesday affirmed the police force's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens by going the extra mile. In a statement posted on the official X handle @DGPMaharashtra, DGP Shukla stated that the investigation into the Badlapur case is being conducted with the utmost diligence. We will leave no stone unturned in delivering justice to innocent children and their families, Shukla said. The DGP mentioned the measures including the forming of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IG-level senior IPS officer Arti Singh.

The opposition's Maha Vikas Aghadi Alliance will call Maharashtra Bandh on August 24 against the Badlapur incident, said Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut.
Raut said: "...We had come here to discuss seat sharing but then we thought that we would not discuss seat sharing and instead discuss the law and order in the state after the Badlapur incident. The people of Maharashtra are agitated and FIRs have been registered against those who protested. We have decided that on August 24, MVA will call for Maharashtra Bandh over the Badlapur incident."
NCP (SCP) leader Jitendra Awhad took a dig at the Maharashtra government over registering FIR against 300 protestors saying: "...Yesterday, FIRs have been filed against 300 people protesting against the Badlapur incident...This is an unconstitutional government...The culprits are increasing and against this Maharashtra Bandh is important"
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi lashed out at the Maharashtra government after around 300 protestors were booked by police for staging protest demanding action in the case.
Taking to the X account, she said: "Reverse FIR. Imagine families desperate to seek justice for their daughters were forced to hit the streets because of government apathy and after being lathi charged, they are being FIRed and arrested. Shameless Maharashtra government."
Shiv Sena (UBT) took a dig at the Mahayuti government's 'Ladli Bahan' scheme saying the government takes credit for such scheme but when will it provide security to women.
In its editorial 'Saamna', the party said: "The atmosphere has heated up due to the case of sexual harassment of two innocent children in a school in Badlapur. Angry parents and the public took to the streets. The impact of this incident is visible in entire Maharashtra. The question is not about the angry people, but about those rulers who come into 'action mode' after the people take to the streets. This incident not only exposed the cruel face of human deformity and inhumanity, but also exposed the mask of feminism of the rulers. This group is taking credit for the 'Ladli Behan' scheme."
"This government is giving money to the sisters, but what about their security? When will they give that? If innocent children of three-four years of age are not safe in your state, are victims of the perverted mentality of criminals, then you have no right to trumpet the relationship of 'brother'," it added.
The 24-year-old accused in the sexual assault case of two four-year-old girls worked as a sweeper in the school where the incident took place. He was hired by the school from a cleaning company on a contractual basis on August 1.
The 23-year-old accused in the Badlapur school case, Akshay Shinde has been sent to police custody till Augiust 24.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut lashed out at the Maharashtra government over booking 300 protestors in an FIR. "What else can happen in Maharashtra," Raut said.
"If there is a public opinion against rape, there are small children who do not understand what a heinous crime has been committed against them and instead of giving protection to that girl, you file criminal cases against those who have come out on the streets to demand justice. The first thing is why did this happen? In which institution did it happen? Whose institution is this," he added.
NCP(SCP) MP Supriya Sule along with other party workers staged protests over the incident on Wednesday.

Massive outrage erupted on Tuesday over sexual assault of two four-year-old girls at a school in Badlapur by a 23-year-old male cleaning staff member. The protestors blocked railway tracks at Badlapur railway station affecting the local trains schedule as they demanded justice for the victim.
The incident came to the fore after one of the girls complained about pain in her private part and told that the man touched him there. The parents registered a complaint after which the accused, Akshay Shinde was arrested by the police.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the formation of a special investigation team into the matter and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that he has taken cogonisance of the matter and added that action will be taken against the school.
State education minister Deepak Kesarkar said that a notice was issued to the school and four teachers have been suspended. According to Kesarkar, the incident took place between August 13 and August 16 while the complaint was registered by the police on August 18. The police did not register the complaint till 12 hours and action was taken against a senior police inspector who was transferred.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) also intervened into the matter. NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanungo criticised the school's and police's initial handling of the case and announced that a team would be sent to Badlapur for an independent inquiry.
"The school's attitude in this case was insensitive. They tried to suppress the case. The concerned police station did not register an FIR in due time." A team will be sent to the spot," Kanungo told ANI.
The National Human Rights Commission also sought a detailed report from Maharashtra authorities on the case and the delay in filing an FIR in the matter.
