The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed the responsibility for the murder of former Maharashtra minister and Ajit camp's NCP leader Baba Siddique.

A Facebook post, claimed to be from a member of the gang has claimed the responsibility amid speculation by the police of the outfit's involvement in the murder. ABP LIVE could not separately confirm the authenticity of the post.

Baba Siddique, 66, was shot dead outside his office in Mumbai's Bandra area. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Facebook post, which is being investigated by the agencies for its authenticity, reads: "Salman Khan, we did not want this war but you got our brother killed... Today Baba Siddiqui is being praised for his decency but at one time he was with Dawood under the MCOCA Act. The reason behind his (Baba Siddiqui's) death was to link Anuj Thapan and Dawood with Bollywood, politics, and property dealing. We do not have any enmity with anyone but whoever helps Salman Khan and Dawood gang, keep their accounts in order."

The social media handle that has been used to claim the responsibility hasn't made any such posts earlier. The gang has usually followed a pattern where Anmol Bishnoi, Goldie Brar or a strong member of the gang takes responsibility through such posts.

In February, one Shubham Rameshwar Onkar was arrested for illegal possession of arms and was found to be an associate of the Bishnoi gang. Notably the user name of the social media profile through which the claim has been posted has been found to be similar to the name of the arrested gang member and the agencies are investigating with all these angles in consideration, sources told ABP News.

Two accused, Gurmail Singh and Dharamraj Kashyap from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been arrested by the police while a manhunt is on to nab the third accused.
