The man behind the gruesome murder of a family of four members in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi was injured in police firing when he tried to run away, police said. The accused, Chandan Verma, was arrested on Friday and taken for recovery of the weapon used in the murder when he snatched the pistol of Sub Inspector Madan Kumar and tried attacking a police team, they added.


The accused has been admitted to Gauriganj District Hospital for treatment, police added. 






A Dalit school teacher named Sunil Kumar, his wife Poonam and their two children were shot dead at their rented home in Amethi on Thursday. Poonam had filed a case against Verma in Rae Bareli on August 18, accusing him of eve-teasing. An FIR was lodged against him under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar Singh said.


Accused Had Affair With Poonam: Police


Additional Superintendent of Police Harendra Kumar said the accused had an affair with the woman for the last one and a half years. "There had been some issues recently, and he was stressed due to that, so he committed the crime yesterday...He shot dead four people (husband, wife, and their two children)... The weapon is yet to be recovered...Further legal action is underway," the police officer added.


The investigation team also found out that Verma had posted a WhatsApp status stating that "Five people will die, I will show you soon." The police suspect that the accused wanted to kill himself after eliminating the four-member family.
