The Allahabad High Court has directed the District Magistrate of Amroha to ensure that all three students, who were allegedly expelled for carrying non-vegetarian food to the school in their tiffin, get admission in another CBSE-affiliated school within 14 days. The court has also sought an affidavit from the Amroha DM in his regard and scheduled the matter for hearing on January 6.
The matter was heard by a bench of Justice Siddharth and Justice Subhash Chandra Sharma, following a petition filed by the children's mother, Sabra. The court has warned that if its order is not followed, the DM must appear in person at the next hearing.
The petitioner had appraoched the court seeking registration of an FIR against the principal of the school who she alleged had wrongly expelled her children from school. She had also demanded that the children be compensated for the loss of their academic progress.
The incident took place in September 2024 when the petitioner's son, a class 3 student, was expelled by the school principal for bringing non-vegetarian food to school. Later, when the matter escalated, his two siblings were also expelled.
A purported video of the interaction between the school principal and boy’s mother and the had gone viral on social media. In the video, the school principal was seen arguing with the boy's mother over the non-vegetarian food and could be heard saying that he would not allow those "who break our temples, harm Hindus, talk about converting all Hindus, and destroying Ram Mandir" to be educated in the school.
The principal also stressed that he had been asking the boy to not bring non-vegetarian food to school and claimed that the child had said that he would continue to bring it and convert all Hindu students to Muslim by making them eat non-vegetarian food.
The boy's mother refuted these allegations and asserted her child would never make such comments and instead accused other students in his class of troubling her son over religious differences. However, the principal maintained that he would not allow her son to study in the school.
After the video of the argument went viral, District School Inspector of Amroha constituted an investigation committee to investigate the matter.
