In a startling incident on Thursday morning, a woman reportedly in mental distress drove her car for nearly three kilometres on active railway tracks near Shankarpally in Telangana, prompting a temporary suspension of train operations in the area. The woman was eventually intercepted by railway personnel and handed over to the local police.
The incident began around 7:30 am when residents near gate number 22, located between Nagulapally and Shankarpally, noticed a car navigating onto the railway line. Witnesses immediately alerted the authorities as the vehicle continued on the tracks. Railway engineering staff tracked the car and managed to intercept it near a crossing close to Shankarpally.
"The woman driver, who was wearing a mask, got down with an iron rod and hurled stones at people who tried to approach her. Railway staff overpowered her and handed her over to Shankarpally police," a railway police official said, as per The Times of India report. Railway staff subdued her and coordinated with the local police for further action.
Background And Police Involvement
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman is a native of Lucknow and had recently lost her job at an IT company in Hyderabad. Earlier in the morning, around 6:30 a.m., she had visited the Narsingi police station to raise a grievance but left abruptly, leaving her bag behind. Officers at the Narsingi station began looking for her shortly thereafter, the report added.
In the meantime, she had driven towards Nagulapally and accessed the railway tracks under circumstances that remain unclear. After being taken into custody, she was transferred to the Chevella government hospital for a medical examination, it added.

Train Services Resume Shortly After
Due to the incident, rail traffic between Nagulapally and Shankarpally was suspended for approximately 30 minutes. Services resumed around 8:00 am once the car was removed from the tracks and the area was declared safe.
Officials at the Shankarpally police station noted that the woman also obstructed police proceedings after being brought in. Authorities are continuing their investigation and are likely to seek psychiatric evaluation given her erratic behavior, claims the report.
