Varunram Ganesh, an Indian-origin professional employed at a US-based company, has sparked a heated debate on social media with his recent tweet advising job seekers to avoid managers who mix Hindi with English while speaking during interviews.


Ganesh, based in New York, tweeted: “A lot of Indian friends are entering the job market, switching jobs, among other things. The biggest advice I have to avoid bad managers and companies is: pick a manager who speaks fully in English.”


“During interviews, pay attention to how your future boss is talking. If you notice one Hindi word or Hindi sentence (frequently to other colleagues), politely decline the job after the call. It will not be worth it. If a manager doesn’t know English and only knows Hindi / Regional languages, that’s totally fine. But if you get a language mixer, your life will be terrible and you will regret your decision,” he added in his post on X (formerly Twitter).






The statement quickly went viral, generating a flood of reactions. Many users accused Ganesh of being disconnected from the realities of the Indian job market and societal norms.


One user commented, “It really shows that you're disconnected from the bottom 90 per cent of society. Work in Manufacturing or a Darshini for a month and your opinion will change.”


“This is non-inclusive privileged statement. Language have nothing to do with managerial skills. I have seen punjabi with english accent to be t*xic while I had couple of Telugu speaking managers who were some of the intelligent and empathetic people I worked,” another user added.


A third user wrote, “Among MNCs and other larger companies, a new language is evolving. In the meetings, 80 per cent of what you say is in English and remaining 20 per cent in Hindi. It's done quite seamlessly by throwing in a few hindi words or sentences every now and then.”
