Possessing an Aadhaar card is a crucial step for any individual residing in India. The Aadhaar is a 12-digit number provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), used to establish an individual’s identity and residence.

To enroll for a new Aadhaar card, an individual needs to fill out a form which is available online on the UIDAI official website, and then submit it to any one of the UIDAI authorised Aadhaar Enrollment Centres located across the country. There are certain documents that are required to be attached to this application to verify the personal details of the applicant. Let's take a look at what these documents are.

Identity Proof

Primary documents like a passport, PAN card, voter ID, driver’s license, school leaving certificate (SLC), or school transfer certificate (TC) containing name and photograph can be used as identification proof for the Aadhaar application. Additionally, if you are married, you should include a marriage certificate and legally approved name change certificate (if applicable) in your application to help establish your identity.

Address Proof

It is important to include an address proof reflecting your name and current address. Therefore, you can use documents like bank statements, passport, electricity/water/landline bills (past three months), ration card, spouse’s passport, etc.

Date of Birth Proof

This requirement ensures that your Aadhaar reflects your age accurately. The documents that can be used as the date of birth proof include birth certificate, passport, school leaving certificate (SLC), or school transfer certificate (TC) having name and date of birth, and marksheet which has been issued by any government board or university, among others.

Relationship Proof

The documents needed to establish the relationship of the applicant with the family head for the Aadhaar card include a pension card, passport of the applicant, government-issued marriage certificate, and ration card among other documents.

Aadhaar For Children Under 5 Years

For children under 5 years of age, the application needs to include aadhaar card of either one of the parents along with the other documents.

While these are the general documents needed to apply for the Aadhaar, always check the UIDAI website or visit an enrollment centre to update yourself with the latest information.
