The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for Aadhaar updation via the government portal. The authority has issued an extension allowing people more time to update their Aadhaar details for free via the myAadhaar portal.

The UIDAI issued an office memorandum on December 11, 2023 and informed about the extension. The memorandum read, “Based on the positive response from the residents, it is decided to extend the facility for 3 more months i.e. from 15.12.2023 to 14.03.2024. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue to be free of cost through myAadhaar portal at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ up to 14.03.2024.”

Notably, the online updation of details is free, while uploading documents at the physical Aadhaar centres would cost a fee of Rs 25 for individuals, reported Economic Times.

The authorities have been urging the public to revise their Aadhaar details if they haven’t already done so in the last 10 years. This is being promoted to keep a tab on Aadhaar-related frauds. The UIDAI noted on their website, “Please update your Aadhaar for continued accuracy of demographic information.”

Information that can be updated on the website include name, address, date of birth, gender, phone number, and email ID. Biometric information like photo, iris scan, etc can also be updated, however, this facility is only available at the physical Aadhaar centres.

Here is the detailed step-by-step process to update your Aadhaar details on the portal

First, visit the official website at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ .

Then, log into the portal using your Aadhaar number or Enrollment ID and choose the ‘Name/Gender/Date of Birth and Address Update’ option.

Now, select the ‘Update Aadhaar Online’ button.

Select ‘Address’ or name or gender from the options available and click on ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’.

Now, the portal requires you to upload a scanned copy of the updated proof such as address proof if you are updating the address on your Aadhaar.

If you are making these changes before March 14, 2024, no payment is required. However, after the deadline, a fee of Rs 25 will be charged from the users for updating the details online.

After this, a new webpage will open and will provide you a ‘Service Request Number’ (SRN). Make sure to save this for future reference and keep a tab on the updation status.
