An Indian tech professional currently earning nearly Rs 80 lakh annually in Europe is considering a move to Bengaluru, sparking considerable online debate. Despite receiving a job offer in Bengaluru with a lower salary of Rs 50 lakh, the professional, who has spent over five years working in northern Europe, believes that India's purchasing power is more favourable and that the market opportunities are greater.
In his Reddit post, the user expressed uncertainty about his decision, asking, "Am I being a dumbo?"
He shared his background: "I have five years of experience working in northern Europe with a salary close to Rs 80 lakh CTC. I've received an offer in Bangalore for around Rs 50 lakh CTC. I'm considering accepting it because I believe the purchasing power is better in India and the market opportunities are larger. However, my family is advising against the move due to concerns about the lower quality of life in India. What do you think?”
Since posting, he has received a wide range of responses, with many users advising against the move. One comment reads, “If you don't want job stability and in dire need of toxic culture, for sure move to india. The labor laws in EU makes it very hard for companies to conduct layoffs. In india, they are laying off left right and centre. Apart from family reasons, there's literally no reason for you to move back to India.”
Another user added, “Just 50L. You do know that nirmala tai will eat 30 per cent of that in a blink of an eye. Plus bangalore rent is again sky rocketing with that we are already heading towards a dry winter (forget summer people are facing water crunch now). And then there is beautiful BBMP which takes more money to give you the middle finger. So all in all your 80L might not be that much wherever you are but sure as hell you live a better life than even a guy earning 1Cr here.”
