The two key equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, on Friday, began trading following the strong rally from the previous market session. The S&P BSE Sensex climbed 308.91 points to touch 72,156.48 in early trade, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 91 points to hit 21,749.60.


At 9:37 AM, the Sensex was trading at 72,090.13, after jumping nearly 250 points, while the Nifty50 stood at 21,733.65, after rising over 70 points. 


On the 30-share Sensex platform, Wipro, NTPC, Tech M, Infosys, and Tech M emerged as the prime gainers. On the downside, Nestle, Sun Pharma, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, and Asian Paint were among those trading in the red. 


In the broader markets, the indices were trading entirely in green. The Nifty Microcap 250 and the Nifty Smallcap 250 led the indices and were trading up by 0.89 per cent and 0.67 per cent respectively. 






Among specific stocks on the NSE, SBI Life advanced over 2 per cent in the morning, followed by Wipro, trading up by nearly 2 per cent. On the flip side, Nestle was trading at a loss of 1.88 per cent, while Sun Pharma was down by nearly 1.5 per cent. 


Sectorally, the Nifty Healthcare and Pharma indices led the losses and were trading lower by 0.58 per cent and 0.43 per cent respectively. The Nifty Realty followed the gains of the previous session and was trading higher by over 2 per cent in the morning trade. Among others, the Nifty IT and Media indices led the gainers and stood higher by 1.46 per cent and 0.80 per cent respectively.


In the previous trading session on Thursday, the two key equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty, attempted recovery of the week’s market sessions and closed trading in green. The S&P BSE Sensex climbed nearly 500 points to close at 71,847.57, while the NSE Nifty50 jumped nearly 150 points to settle at 21,658.60. 


The domestic rupee appreciated 1 paise to touch 83.23 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday. A day earlier, the domestic unit closed at 83.23 (provisional) against the American dollar.
