On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a locomotive manufacturing facility of Indian Railways in Dahod, Gujarat, furthering his focus on strengthening the nation's transportation capabilities.
The launch was accompanied by the rollout of the first electric locomotive made at the new plant. The Prime Minister was joined at the event by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, reported ANI.
As stated by the Prime Minister’s Office, this initiative is part of the government’s larger mission to upgrade rail infrastructure and improve freight operations. The Dahod unit will manufacture 9000 horsepower electric locomotives for both domestic deployment and international export. Designed with regenerative braking technology, these locomotives are expected to optimise energy use and support environmental sustainability while significantly enhancing freight loading potential.
Foundation Laid for Projects Worth Rs 24,000 Crore
Beyond the factory’s inauguration, the Prime Minister also launched and laid foundation stones for several developmental initiatives totalling more than Rs 24,000 crore. These span across railway upgrades and various state government-led projects. Two new train services were also flagged off by PM Modi — the Vande Bharat Express connecting Veraval to Ahmedabad and a new express route between Valsad and Dahod, further expanding regional rail accessibility.

Modi's Gujarat Visit Begins With Roadshow In Vadodara
Kicking off his two-day Gujarat visit from May 26 to 27, the Prime Minister conducted a roadshow in Vadodara earlier in the day. Crowds gathered in large numbers, waving national flags and chanting slogans as flower petals were showered along the procession route. Patriotic music played in the background as the Prime Minister waved to the public, who responded with cheers and enthusiasm.
Expressing his joy after the event, he wrote on X, “Thank you, Vadodara! Extremely delighted to be in this great city. It was a splendid roadshow and that too in the morning! Gratitude to all those who showered their blessings.”
Among the attendees were family members of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, an officer with the Indian Army who had participated in media briefings during Operation Sindoor. They paid their respects by showering the Prime Minister with flower petals as he passed.
The visit to Gujarat underscores the Centre’s continued emphasis on regional development, with Dahod and Vadodara playing central roles in the national infrastructure narrative.
