National Logistics Policy has improved the quality of planning and implementing infrastructure projects in the country, said Anurag Jain, secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Talking to the news agency ANI, the DPIIT secretary said, “The quality of planning has improved a lot leading to cost optimisation, giving a scope of saving time in further implementation.”

On September 17 this year, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi launched the National Logistics Policy. He said that the Policy is a "comprehensive effort to enhance efficiency of the logistics ecosystem in India."

“Our work in the last year in infrastructure sector yielded positive results. People believe results are better than vision with which this was started. As per feedback of depts, in infrastructure there have been benefits. It saves time,” DPIIT secretary Anurag Jain said on Friday.

Last year on October 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Gati Shakti project. A National Master Plan aimed at developing an integrated infrastructure to reduce logistic costs. The project brought 16 ministries including Railways and Roadways together for integrated planning and coordinated implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects.

All logistics and connectivity infrastructure projects, entailing an investment of over Rs 500 crore were routed through the network planning group constituted under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.

During the launch of the National Logistics Policy, Prime Minister pointed out that the PM Gatishakti National Master Plan will be supporting the National Logistics Policy. He had said, “Gatishakti and National Logistics Policy together are now taking the country towards a new work culture.”

The DPIIT secretary said that when the review was being done at the highest level, it was asked if National Logistics Policy can be used in the social sector. He said, “We started discussions with the social sector with five departments. Work has begun, it will take some time but there will definitely be better utilisation of resources by the departments."
