EXPLAINED: Multidimensional Poverty That 24.82 Crore Indians Escaped In Nine Years
Multidimensional Poverty: States such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh recorded largest decline in the number of MPI poor between 2013-14 and 2022-23.
In India, 24.82 crore people escaped multidimensional poverty in the past nine years, NITI Aayog has said in its report on 'Multidimensional Poverty in India since 2005-06'. The report released on Monday states that India registered a significant decline in the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) from 29.17 per cent between 2013 and 2014 to 11.28 per cent between 2022 and 2023, which is a significant reduction of 17.89 percentage points.
