Maruti Suzuki India surpassed Hyundai and other carmakers to report the largest domestic passenger vehicle sales in February 2025. The automaker clocked sales of 1,60,791 units in the PV segment, in comparison to 1,60,271 units reported in the same month a year earlier.

While the company logged a decline in its mini segment sales, Maruti Suzuki reported a hike in the compact car sales, including models such as Baleno and Swift, as these climbed to 72,942 units in the month under review, against 71,627 units recorded in the corresponding period last year.

This marginal growth in the company’s sales managed to help it outshine its peers as the market witnessed a broader slowdown, reported Business Today.

Hyundai Sees Fall In Sales

Hyundai Motor India saw a 5 per cent decline in domestic sales at 47,727 units sold in February 2025, in comparison to 50,201 units sold in the same month a year earlier. Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and CEO, said that he remained optimistic about future demand.

“On the domestic sales front, despite geopolitical challenges, we remain optimistic that the proposed tax reforms in the Union Budget 2025 and improved liquidity will provide the much-needed demand boost to the market,” Garg observed.

Tata, M&M, And Kia India's Performance

Tata Motors also said that its domestic PV sales slumped 9 per cent from 51,267 units sold in February 2024 to 46,435 units sold last month. Meanwhile, Mahindra & Mahindra reported a strong growth in utility vehicle sales by 19 per cent and touched 50,420 units in the month under review. This surge was driven by a robust performance seen in the SUV segment.

Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, Mahindra, said, “This strong performance is a result of a continued positive momentum for our SUV portfolio.”

Kia India also saw a surge in sales as demand increased considerably. Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior VP and Head of Sales and Marketing, attributed the growth of the automaker to strong consumer demand.
